not a sphere at DOOResidency, Zaandam, The Netherlands 13 – 19 september
‘Not a Sphere, but an irregular shape approximating a biaxial ellipsoid’ – an initiative from an artist collective formed within the Critical Practice MA programme at the Royal College of Art, London, UK.
In our quest for transparency, we peer ever deeper into the sphere and its magical estate. As we polish and obsess, the surface tension of the orb’s translucent membrane turns slack, the apparatus dissolves, and we drop beyond the barrier into the illusion within, fascinated by our own distorted reflection.
‘Not a Sphere, but an irregular shape approximating a biaxial ellipsoid’ features recent works from 21 international artists, all of whom share a strong sense of criticality. Dreamlike, radical, caring — the works in this exhibition cross disciplines and continents. Presenting works made from hand-formed clay, textile installation, performance, text and audio, sculpture, moving image and virtual worlds.
Exhibiting artists: Catalina Correa, Elena Lo Presti, Paola Estrella, Anita Marante, Patrick O’Neill, Melle Nieling, Ed Hands, Iona Mitchell, Laura Moreton-Griffiths, Amy Wright, Lulu Wang, Louise Ørsted Jensen, Isaac Azzopardi, Amélie Mckee, Sergei Zinchuk, Kevin Siwoff, Alessando Moroni, Luis Tapia, Cynthia Carlinni, Ma Baocheng, Léa Porré.
